eDiscovery & Chronologies
“We have a massive data dump. Which documents matter, and what do they say?”
eDiscovery for jobs of all sizes
eDiscovery and document review used to be economical only on the very largest cases. LK Legal makes them available on any case, from a bundle you need filtered for disclosure, to a record set you need read, understood and turned into a timeline.
You've just received a large bundle of documents. We'll tell you which ones matter, and what they say.
When a matter arrives with thousands of documents and a deadline, the first job is working out what's relevant. We review and code every document against your issues, and hand back a set you can work from.
What you get
- Relevance coding: every document coded as relevant or not relevant to the issues you define.
- Privilege review: each document assessed for privilege, with the basis recorded.
- Issue tagging: documents tagged against the specific issues in your matter.
- A filtered document set: the relevant documents, ready for your review or production.
- A schedule of privilege claims (privilege log): ready to support your list of documents.
- A cited chronology: every entry traceable to its source document and page, drawing all the sources into one story.
- Document summaries: concise summaries of the key documents, written for use in litigation.
- The documents: the referenced documents and records, extracted and labelled with ISO dates for easy reference.
Chronology is king
Every good lawyer knows that the best arguments and the most critical risks in a case reveal themselves once you have a solid chronology of the available records. Most cases are decided on the evidence, but what if you don't have the resources to get through all of it, or you need your team focused on other work? You give us the records and the issues in your matter. We hand you back a fully referenced chronology.
Speed and quality
We have our own in-house tools for producing thorough, referenced chronologies from very large document sets. We turn the work around promptly, and a partner checks everything end to end before it is sent out.
Working with the records you have
We review the records you provide. If they need to be exported from your systems, we can work directly with your IT provider.
Who it's for
Law firms and in-house legal teams dealing with discovery, a subpoena or notice to produce, a regulator's request for documents, or an information access application, and parties to litigation who need a reliable timeline of a large record set.
Need more than the documents?
We can review the records against your legal risks and advise you, or act on what they show. See Legal Audits & Internal Investigations and Disputes & Statutory Schemes.
Common questions
What's the difference between a chronology and a document summary?
We think of a document summary as a chronological summary of a record set from a single source, sometimes without reference to relevance. A chronology is a unified summary of all relevant documents from all available sources, telling the complete story.
Can we start at the chronology stage?
Yes. We can build a chronology from the full record set, or from a set you've already filtered.
What file types can you work with?
We'll work with just about any format that contains readable text, including PDFs, Word documents, scanned records, emails, spreadsheets and HTML. We can also assist with audio files, provided they are in a transcribable format.
How do we send you the documents?
After a conflict check, we send you a secure upload link for your matter. You don't need an account.
Who reviews the documents?
The partner you instruct runs the review and signs off the coded set. Our own in-house tools help us work through large volumes, and the coding is reviewed by a lawyer.
How is it priced?
It's quoted before we start, based on the volume of documents.
How long does it take?
It depends on the volume and your deadline. Turnaround is agreed for each engagement, and we can fast-track matters with tight deadlines.
